Emerson Motor 48 Frame Thru Bolt 1.5 HP 115 Volts 2 Speed

Thru Bolt motors are identified by their welded base and the four bolts that run the full length of the motor and fasten to the legs of the wet-end. The heads of these bolts are 1/4 drive.

The largest true HP that a motor comes in in 115 volts is 1.5 HP, anything after that was sold as marketing HP with “SPL” after the HP standing for “special”. It was used to give the appearance that you were getting more HP then was actually present.
